Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What ages do you care for?

We provide care for children from birth through age 5. Our programs are specifically designed for three age groups: infants (0-12 months), toddlers (1-2 years), and preschoolers (3-5 years), ensuring age-appropriate activities and developmental support.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, O'Neill Home Day Care is fully licensed by New York State and carries comprehensive liability insurance. All our caregivers are certified in CPR and First Aid, and we undergo regular inspections to maintain the highest safety standards.

What does a typical day look like?

Each day includes a balance of structured learning activities, creative play, outdoor time (weather permitting), nutritious meals and snacks, and rest periods. We follow a consistent schedule while remaining flexible to meet individual children's needs. You can view our detailed daily schedule on our Programs page.

Do you provide meals?

Yes! We provide all meals and snacks, including breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack. All food is freshly prepared using organic ingredients whenever possible. We accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, and cultural preferences.

How do I enroll my child?

The enrollment process begins with scheduling a tour of our facility. During your visit, you'll meet our team, see our environment, and we'll discuss your child's needs and our programs. After the tour, we'll provide enrollment paperwork and discuss start dates. We recommend scheduling tours at least 2-3 weeks before your desired start date.

What is your caregiver-to-child ratio?

We maintain ratios that exceed New York State requirements: 1:4 for infants, 1:5 for toddlers, and 1:8 for preschoolers. These smaller group sizes ensure every child receives personalized attention and care throughout the day.

How do you communicate with parents?

We provide daily reports that include information about your child's meals, activities, naps, and any notable moments. We also share photos and videos throughout the day. Additionally, we're always available for phone calls, and we schedule regular parent-teacher conferences to discuss your child's development.

What happens if my child gets sick?

For the health and safety of all children, we ask that sick children stay home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without medication. We have a detailed illness policy that we'll share during enrollment. If a child becomes ill during the day, we'll contact parents immediately for pickup.
